Tinubu Reaffirms Full Support for Siemens Presidential Power Initiative, Orders Faster Implementation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), assuring Siemens Energy that the Federal Government remains fully aligned with plans to expand and stabilise electricity supply nationwide.
During a meeting with a high-level Siemens Energy delegation at the State House on Monday, the President stressed that power infrastructure is central to Nigeria’s economic recovery and long-term competitiveness across key sectors such as manufacturing, education, and healthcare.
In remarks obtained by PulseNets, Tinubu stated that his government is prioritising energy reforms more urgently than before.
He said, “We are treating the power sector as a matter of national priority. I appreciate the partnership from the German government and Siemens, and while the progress so far is evident, the pace must accelerate. Nigeria’s industrial growth depends on reliable power.”
Tinubu further directed that several major transformer substations under the PPI be expanded from two phases to three to enhance grid stability and ensure greater nationwide coverage.
PulseNets learnt that the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, briefed the President on recent milestones under the initiative. He disclosed that the Electricity Act 2023 and accompanying sector reforms have already attracted more than $22 billion in new investments, enabling the development of state-level electricity markets.
Adelabu added that, under the pilot phase, Siemens supplied mobile substations and transformers that have introduced an additional 984 MW of transmission capacity across the national grid. Civil works under Phase One are set to begin in Abeokuta, Offa, Ibadan (Ayede), Sokoto, and Onitsha, with two major substations expected to be completed before the end of 2026.
Speaking at the meeting, Siemens Energy’s Middle East and Africa Managing Director, Dietmar Siersdorfer, explained that the Presidential Power Initiative will deliver significant job opportunities, drive technology transfer, and position Nigeria as a leading power hub within the region.
