Tinubu Swears In New Defence Chiefs, Decorates Oluyede, Shaibu, Aneke, and Abbas in Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday afternoon formally administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force at the State House in Abuja.

The swearing-in ceremony followed the confirmation of their appointments by the Senate during plenary on Wednesday, after thorough screening sessions. PulseNets learnt that the event, which took place at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, also featured the decoration of the officers with their new ranks to reflect their elevated positions.

Those officially decorated include General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, who now assumes duty as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS); and Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiendeye, newly appointed as the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI).

Others are Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Air Marshal Kevin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Vice Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

A source who spoke to PulseNets described the event as “brief but symbolic,” noting that it marked a new phase in the administration’s security architecture.

President Tinubu, who had announced the new service chiefs last Friday, was said to have made the decision as part of broader efforts to refocus, reposition, and strengthen national security coordination across all defence fronts.

The President, in a statement obtained by PulseNets from his verified X handle @officialABAT, urged the newly appointed military heads to uphold discipline and unity in the armed forces.

“Our nation depends on your vigilance, professionalism, and loyalty. Deepen synergy across commands and serve with honour,”
the President was quoted as saying.

The reshuffle of the nation’s top military hierarchy, PulseNets reported, reflects the administration’s renewed determination to address Nigeria’s complex security challenges through strategic leadership and operational efficiency.
