Professor Uduma Uduma Appointed as New Vice-Chancellor of NOUN — Governing Council Confirms

The Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has officially approved the appointment of Professor Uduma Uduma as the institution’s next Vice-Chancellor.

This development was obtained by PulseNets following a media briefing on Friday by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Isa Yuguda, shortly after the council’s meeting in Abuja.

According to Mr. Yuguda, the appointment takes effect on February 11, 2026, immediately after the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Peters, expires.

“The Governing Council carefully reviewed the Board’s recommendation and approved Professor Uduma’s appointment based on merit and proven leadership capacity,” Mr. Yuguda told PulseNets.

“The University community looks forward to his vision and transformative leadership as he assumes office on February 11, 2026. We are confident that his vast experience and scholarship will advance NOUN’s mission of expanding access to quality education across Nigeria,” he added.

PulseNets reported that Professor Uduma, a Professor of Philosophy and Logic and a Barrister-at-Law, brings decades of academic and administrative experience to his new role.

Born on January 30, 1966, Professor Uduma obtained his first degree from the University of Calabar, where he graduated as the best student in his faculty. He later earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philosophy from the University of Lagos before being called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007.

Over the years, Professor Uduma has served in several key positions within the university system, including Head of Department, Director of General Studies, Director of Academic Planning, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at NOUN.

He also made remarkable strides as the Study Centre Director at Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, where he reportedly increased student enrolment from 496 to over 2,000 through strategic reforms and community engagement.
