Following the emergence of a disturbing video depicting alleged misconduct by a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, involving an unidentified female student, the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) has taken swift action.
In response to the outcry sparked by the viral video, Uniport’s management convened an emergency meeting, resulting in the formation of a special panel tasked with investigating the incident. The committee has been mandated to deliver its findings within a tight timeframe of five days.
Comprising esteemed faculty members, the investigative committee includes:
- Professor Jonah S Aprioku (Chairman)
- Professor Emeka Ehirim (Member)
- Professor Agatha Ozah (Member)
- Professor Edwinah Amah (Member)
- Dr Edward Bristol Alagberiya (Member)
The Registrar of the University will appoint a secretary to facilitate the committee’s proceedings.

In a statement issued by Prof Owunari Abraham Georgewill, the Vice Chancellor of University, emphasized the institution’s commitment to upholding ethical standards and ensuring the welfare and safety of its students. The swift establishment of the investigative committee reflects Uniport’s dedication to addressing allegations of misconduct with utmost seriousness and urgency.
