University of Port Harcourt Hosts First Cultural Exchange Programme at Chinese Learning Centre
The University of Port Harcourt‘s Chinese Learning Centre is set to host its inaugural Cultural Exchange Programme, themed the “Dumpling Bond Festival,” on August 26, 2024, at the Delta Campus. This significant event aims to celebrate cultural diversity and foster stronger ties between Nigeria and China through a rich array of activities.
The festival will begin at 11:30 AM and promises a day filled with engaging experiences. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, and the Managing Director of Inner Galaxy Group, Mr. Zhang Hongming, will grace the event as Guests of Honour. They will be joined by esteemed speakers, including Prof. Kalu Wosu, the Director of the Chinese Language Centre, and Dr. Titilayo Osuagwu, Deputy Director of the Centre.
The event’s highlights will include a presentation on the history and origin of Chinese dumplings by Mrs. Xu Ziyun, a guest speaker. Attendees will also enjoy singing and dance performances, a dumpling feast fused with Nigerian dance, a student sketch show, and various cultural exchange activities designed to promote bonding and mutual understanding.

Ugoaru Chinaeme 李中华, the Programme Coordinator, expressed excitement about the event, noting that it represents a unique opportunity for students and staff to experience the richness of Chinese culture while showcasing Nigerian traditions.
