From 2.2 to a Fully Funded Graduate Scholarship: The Inspiring Journey of Chukwuere Afam Nehemiah

Chukwuere Afam Nehemiah, fondly known as President CAN or Engineer CAN, has defied the odds to secure a fully funded graduate scholarship at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, despite graduating with a Second-Class Lower degree from the University of Port Harcourt.

Chukwuere’s journey began in Kaduna, where he was one of the brightest students at JUPAVI International School. His early years were marked by a deep admiration for greatness and an unwavering determination to achieve it. However, like many young people, Chukwuere lost his way during his university years. He became entangled in a lifestyle of smoking, drinking, and full-time betting, which led to a significant drop in his academic performance. The dreams he once held so dearly seemed to slip away as he was written off by those around him.

But just when it seemed like all hope was lost, Chukwuere found a new perspective and turned his life around. Though he graduated with a Second-Class Lower degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt, his story did not end there. He was advised to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma to improve his academic standing, but he chose a different path—one that would ultimately lead him to extraordinary success.

Three years after graduation, Chukwuere’s perseverance paid off when he was offered a Master’s program admission at the Nigeria Defense Academy. But that wasn’t all—he also received a fully funded scholarship for an MSc program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a rare and coveted opportunity that many would only dream of.

The road to securing his visa for the United States was fraught with challenges. Chukwuere recounts witnessing numerous visa denials at the embassy, which only fueled his anxiety. During his interview, he felt he had faltered in his responses and expected the worst. Yet, against all odds, his visa was approved, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

Now thriving in the United States, Chukwuere reflects on his journey, not as a mere tale of personal success, but as a beacon of hope for others facing similar struggles. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance, faith, and the belief that even in the darkest moments, there is always a way forward.

For those who feel like they’ve reached a dead end, Chukwuere’s message is clear: keep pushing forward, don’t give up, and trust that timing is everything. When the time is right, life can change in ways you never imagined.

Here is his testimonial:

I know a boy who life has tested, but who refused to give up. When it comes to someone who could have been “written off,” I guess I’m that person. You might be wondering who that boy is. Well, I am he—Chukwuere Afam Nehemiah, fondly called President CAN or Engineer CAN by friends, family, and fans.

My childhood was remarkable. I was one of the brightest students at JUPAVI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL KADUNA (ALUMNI). It was there that I developed a deep admiration for greatness and a determination to achieve it, no matter the obstacles.

After my secondary education, I gained admission into the prestigious University of Port Harcourt. Like many young people, I was swept up in youthful excitement and completely lost my focus. I found myself caught up in smoking, drinking, keeping late nights, and worst of all, full-time betting. These poor choices affected my grades, and I ended up farther from my dreams than I could have ever imagined. People began to write me off as a complete failure. But just when it seemed like I had reached a dead end, something shifted. I found a new perspective, and my story changed drastically. I went from being lost to becoming someone who could positively impact those around me.

I may not have graduated with top honors from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UNIPORT (a Second-Class Lower degree isn’t exactly impressive), but I can tell you that I’ve been living a life far more fulfilling than what my academic results could have predicted. I was advised to pursue a PGD to boost my chances of getting into a Master’s program, but I decided to take a different path.

Three years later, something extraordinary happened. I was offered an MSc admission at the Nigeria Defense Academy, and I also received a fully funded MSc scholarship at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Naturally, I chose the path that seemed right for me.

The journey to getting my visa approved was not an easy one. I saw countless people walk out with heavy hearts after their visas were denied. When it was my turn, I felt like everything I said during the interview was completely off the mark. I was sure I would be going home with a denial. But guess what? Against all odds, my visa was approved. How it happened, I’m still not entirely sure, but I walked away with an approved visa. Three weeks later, I traveled, and since then, life has continued to open up in amazing ways.

This isn’t just another story; it’s my journey. Why am I sharing this? Because I want you to know that no matter what situation you’re in, there’s always hope. Just like my life turned around, yours can too. Keep pushing forward, don’t give up, and remember—timing is everything. When the right time comes, things will fall into place in ways you never imagined.
