Aisha Ahmad, the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in charge of financial stability, has stated that she is unaware of the number of fresh notes that were created and made available for circulation.
When she appeared before the House of Representatives to inform the House on the apex bank’s cashless policy and cash withdrawal limitations, she responded to questioning from MPs by making this statement.
The legislators had decided on Wednesday that a CBN deputy governor would appear to brief the House today (Thursday), in place of CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, who is away from the nation taking care of health-related matters.
During the CBN deputy governor’s cross-examination, a legislator named Sada Soli expressed worries about the new notes’ unavailability days after they were made available to the public and demanded information on the number of new notes issued.
However, in response to the inquiry, the CBN deputy governor stated that she was unaware of the number of notes that the central bank had issued.
