Wike Blasts Makinde at PDP NEC Meeting, Warns Against “Contract Politics” Ahead of Convention

A sharp political exchange erupted within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, publicly criticised Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, during the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

PulseNets learned that Wike, in a strongly worded intervention, described as “unfortunate” remarks allegedly attributed to Makinde concerning meetings involving him and the President, insisting the narrative was misleading and politically unnecessary.

“It’s unfortunate a fight you cannot fight, you started,” Wike stated.

PulseNets reported that the former Rivers State governor used the moment to draw a hard line between political ambition and financial motivation, warning against what he portrayed as the commercialization of politics within party ranks.

“Politics is not contract work. They are two different things,” Wike said.
“You wanted money; I wanted power. Stay where you are as a contractor.”

He doubled down on the distinction, rejecting any notion of transactional politics.

“Politics is not a contract of Shell. I didn’t go into politics to be a contractor. I went into politics to have power,” he declared.

PulseNets learnt that the FCT Minister also issued a broader warning to PDP stakeholders, cautioning against avoidable political confrontations and stressing that strategic thinking, not emotional reactions, should guide party decisions.

Looking ahead to the party’s scheduled national convention, Wike made it clear that loyalty would be non-negotiable.

“After this NEC meeting, anybody that doesn’t show commitment to the convention don’t come back after and say you are fully back. I will not accept that,” he warned.

PulseNets obtained that Wike further called for unity within the PDP, urging party leaders to intensify reconciliation efforts while maintaining sincerity and discipline among members as internal tensions continue to test the party’s cohesion.
