Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello to Face Arraignment Today — EFCC

EFCC withdraws case against Yahaya Bello

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, is expected to be arraigned this morning at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

PulseNets learned that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to dock the former governor on 19-count charges bordering on alleged money laundering. Justice Emeka Nwite will preside over the session, where Bello’s plea is anticipated to be taken.

Initially slated for January 27 next year, the EFCC reportedly pushed to expedite the arraignment following Bello’s presence at the agency’s office. Sources who spoke to PulseNets revealed that hearing notices had already been served to both Bello’s legal team and the EFCC, ensuring a smooth proceeding today.

This marks the second time Bello is being put on trial by the EFCC. PulseNets reported that on Wednesday, November 27, the former governor was arraigned before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on a 16-count charge of alleged breach of trust. He pleaded not guilty and requested bail to prepare for his defense.

Justice Maryann Anenih, who handled the earlier case, fixed December 10 to rule on the bail application. Meanwhile, she ordered that Bello and two others arraigned alongside him be remanded in EFCC custody until the ruling is delivered.

As the legal battle unfolds, today’s hearing is poised to draw significant attention. Stay tuned for updates as PulseNets continues to monitor this developing story.
