ASUU strike: Final year medical student turned food vendor dies

A student who worked as a food vendor during the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, Usman Abubakar-Rimi, has passed suddenly.

The deceased was a final-year Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto student studying medicine and surgery (UDUS).

Abubakar-Rimi founded a restaurant in Sokoto’s Diplomat neighbourhood. After a brief illness, he passed away on Wednesday.

On Saturday, Umar Idris, the chairman of the 21st Century Entrepreneur Hub, confirmed the death to NAN.

Idris claimed that the deceased had been buried in his hometown of Rimi Local Government Area, Katsina, in accordance with Islamic customs.

Abubakar-Rimi was praised for being modest, a hard worker, and a committed student and businessman.

The deceased disclosed to NAN in September that he entered the food industry as a result of the protracted ASUU strike.

The late student remembered starting an egg and poultry distribution company during the COVID-19 lockdown.
