‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ to premiere in Lagos

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ a film by Marvel Studios, is due to premiere in Lagos ahead of its global release date on November 11.

The Walt Disney Company has revealed that the adventure film will have its world debut in Nigeria, in collaboration with the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and FilmOne Entertainment.

Moses Babatope and Kene Okwuosa, co-founders of FilmOne Entertainment, the official distributors of the film in English West African areas, expressed happiness with the achievement in a statement.

“Being instrumental to the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in West Africa is a proud achievement and a milestone for us and the entire FilmOne team, it will be celebrated for a long time. We are excited and fully committed to working with The Walt Disney Company to deliver a grand African premiere, even as we channel all our arsenal towards realizing a momentous box-office performance for the title.”

Chioma Ude, the founder of AFRIFF, described the development as incentive for bridging the worldwide film industry’ divides. ”

“This is huge for the continent of Africa as it symbolises to us further bridging the gaps between the global film industries,” she said.

Ude went on to say: “We are excited and proud to be a part of the premiere of this milestone film here in Africa. We couldn’t be more excited to be bringing Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to Lagos this November,” said Christine Service, Senior Vice President and General Manager for The Walt Disney Company Africa. “Working closely with our long-term distribution partners FilmOne and this association with AFRIFF, we are anticipating a wonderful celebration with Nigeria’s cinema-goers and Black Panther fans.”

Talented actors such as Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (featuring Florence Kasumba) battle to defend their country from interfering international powers following King T’Challa’s death in the series of movies.

The heroes must work together with the aid of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) to pave a new course for the kingdom of Wakanda as the Wakandans attempt to embrace their next chapter. In addition to Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, Alex Livinalli, and Tenoch Huerta Meji, the movie stars Michaela Coel as Namor, the monarch of a clandestine undersea realm.
