Stop indecent dressings — ASUU tells varsity students

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU, has warned students against inappropriate clothing.

Dr Happiness Uduk, ASUU chairperson at the University of Uyo, issued the warning after a team from the Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars, ABAS, visited her office to update her on their 19th convocation ceremony and public symposium on peace.

Uduk, who commented on the terrible clothing practises that are currently common on many higher education campuses, praised the ABAS members for their fashion sense, advising other students and youngsters to strive to dress modestly and tastefully.

“I want to encourage other students on campus to emulate your examples. I encourage you to lead a life worthy of emulation by jettisoning all vices and crime,” she said

In his remarks on the symposium’s theme,  “Threats to Peaceful Co-existence: The Role of a Religious Man,”  the ASUU president praised the young researchers for thinking deeply about national peace and religious tolerance even as Nigeria has its general election next month.

She stated that pooling their money to organise the conference demonstrates their patriotism and compassion for mankind, saying that the symposium’s timing is appropriate given the nation’s need for peaceful electioneering activities during the political campaign season.

Earlier, DV Mbereobong Archibong, President of ABAS UniUyo, stated that the visit was part of the festivities commemorating the 19th ABAS convocation.

Mbereobong went on to say that they are the intellectual arm of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, whose teachings and practises are based on divine love, charitable living, and peaceful coexistence among all people.

“The ABAS 19th convocation will hold in Uyo featuring a solemn street walk for peace, inter-faith symposium, and Hall of Fame Awards to meritorious scholars across the state,” he disclosed.
