How my dad got me arrested — Davido

David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, is a Nigerian singer. He has described how his rich father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, sent police to arrest him multiple times in the beginning of his career.

The singer of “Omo Baba Olowo” claimed that his father first opposed his musical endeavors and rather that he concentrate on his education.

With the release of his album, Davido recently made an appearance on Ebro in the Morning Program on Hot 97FM in New York, USA.

The singer said that multiple times, his father sent police officers to arrest him and interrupt shows at which he was scheduled to appear.

He said, “He sent police to get me like he sees a billboard; for example, ‘Davido performing, Wizkid performing’. He will send police to arrest everybody.”

When asked why his dad sent police to arrest him, Davido said, “So, I can go back to school.

“He kept on doing it. Then there was one time. This is where I knew that ‘Oh I’m lit!’. They [police] came and got me. Then I’m in the cell and the dude that got the keys his phone rings, it’s my song. I said ‘that’s me’. He said ‘you’re Davido?’. I said ‘yes!’. And he let me go.”

Asked when his dad gave up on arresting him, Davido said, “I finished school. But I had to do like a part-time stuff. Not that he hated music [he just wanted me to be done with school]. And I feel like, he wants that whatever I’m going to do, I have to be successful, very successful.”

He added that his dad is proud of him now, and he is his number one fan
