Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has denied reports that he was arrested and detained at Heathrow Airport in London, UK.

PulseNets reports that the former Governor of Anambra State was held for hours by UK immigration officials over allegations of impersonation.

However, in an interview with Arise TV on Monday, Obi clarified that he was only stopped for a routine immigration check, as someone had duplicated his identity to allegedly commit a crime in London.

He further revealed that he was treated with respect and underwent a VIP process that took less than 20 minutes, contrary to viral reports that he was mistreated.

He said, “I was stopped for a routine immigration check in the UK because it appears that my identity was duplicated by someone. I was never arrested. I was treated with due respect and walked through the VIP process. Everything lasted less than 20 minutes.”
