Abuja Land Grabber, Wike Acccuses Civil Servants of Multibillion Naira Contract Scams

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, already under fire after PulseNets learnt of his massive diversion of Abuja lands to his sons, father, and relatives, has turned the spotlight on civil servants, accusing them of running corruption rackets in the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking on Tuesday at the inauguration of Phase 2 rehabilitation works at the Lower Usman Dam in Ushafa, Mr Wike alleged that senior bureaucrats had been approving multi-million naira contracts behind his back.

“I came on board, and people were already shouting that local contractors were being owed N5 billion, N8 billion. I asked, ‘Who awarded these contracts?’”

He continued:

“Civil servants sit in their offices and award contracts of N10 million, N15 million, N20 million without the minister’s knowledge.

Then they turn around to say the minister is owing N15 billion. That will never happen! Nobody can intimidate me on that.”

PulseNets reported that the minister flatly rejected responsibility for any such deals, insisting that he would only pay for contracts he personally approved.

“If I award contracts, I will pay.

But I don’t award contracts without money. Even the Federal Executive Council awarded some, and I told them to hold on until funds were available. Let nobody say I borrowed money,” he declared.

Mr Wike further told PulseNets that transparency under his watch must not be compromised.

“Let anyone who claims I awarded a contract produce the documents. If I didn’t, why should I be held responsible? We must do things right. If it wasn’t done properly before, it doesn’t mean it won’t be done properly today.”

But while Wike lashes out at the civil service, questions remain about his own credibility. PulseNets had earlier reported, citing exclusive investigations, that the minister himself is neck-deep in corruption, with evidence exposing his brazen looting of Abuja lands for personal and family enrichment.

The clash between Wike’s public anti-graft posturing and the revelations of his private dealings now raises a broader question: is the FCT minister genuinely committed to fighting corruption, or merely deflecting blame to cover his own tracks?
