Deji Excited as Peter Obi Threatens to Sue Him Over Alleged Defamation

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has threatened legal action against outspoken human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, over what his legal team described as repeated defamatory publications.

According to documents obtained by PulseNets from EJESIMEN & CO MADIBA CHAMBERS, SAN, Obi’s lawyers alleged that Adeyanju has consistently published derogatory remarks across X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms, deliberately defaming the former governor’s reputation.

The legal notice specifically referenced a controversial post dated August 21, where Adeyanju accused Obi of allegedly diverting funds from Anambra State coffers to finance his family business. In that same post, Adeyanju further claimed he once met Obi, who purportedly tried to hand him cash.

“He tried to give me money and called it thank you for coming. It’s 100 percent true,” Adeyanju had written in the viral post.

Obi’s legal representatives told PulseNets that they are demanding a full retraction of all defamatory statements, alongside an unreserved public apology from Adeyanju.

However, Adeyanju appears unfazed. In a strongly worded response posted on his official Facebook page Wednesday night, the lawyer doubled down on his criticism of Obi.

“I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah,” Adeyanju declared.

PulseNets recalls that Deji Adeyanju has long been a staunch critic of Peter Obi. He has repeatedly argued that the former Anambra governor may never become President of Nigeria, often clashing with Obi’s loyal supporters known as the “Obidients.”

On several occasions, Adeyanju has posted comments considered unfavourable to Obi’s political journey. In one of his most recent remarks on Facebook, Adeyanju insisted:

“It is already too late for Peter Obi to ever be elected as Nigerian President.”

The escalating feud between Obi and Adeyanju is now poised to test the limits of political discourse and defamation law in Nigeria, with both camps signaling readiness for a legal showdown.
