Tinubu Extends Customs CG Adewale Adeniyi’s Tenure by Six Months Until February 2027
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved another six-month extension for the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi.
The development was contained in a statement obtained by PulseNets on Friday from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.
PulseNets learnt that Adeniyi’s tenure, which had previously received a one-year extension in 2025, was originally scheduled to end on August 1, 2026.
According to the statement obtained by PulseNets, the latest six-month extension will run until February 2027 and is intended to allow the Customs boss to further consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window project while ensuring a smooth and orderly leadership transition within the service.
PulseNets reports that during the extension period, Adeniyi will work closely with the Nigeria Customs Service Board to oversee critical administrative processes, including the promotion of qualified officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs and the mandatory retirement of officers who have either reached the age of 60 or completed 35 years in service.

The statement further indicated that the transition arrangement is designed to strengthen institutional continuity and support ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Customs Service.
Adeniyi joined the Nigeria Customs Service after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University in the late 1980s and has since risen through the ranks to become the agency’s Comptroller-General.
