2027 Elections: ADC Fully Prepared to Contest, Says Former Minister Solomon Dalung

Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has reaffirmed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is fully prepared to participate in the 2027 general elections, despite queries from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the party’s leadership registration.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show, which PulseNets obtained on Monday, Dalung clarified that procedural hurdles raised by INEC cannot derail the party’s ambition.

“The ADC is not a mere association. It is a registered political party in Nigeria with over 19 years of consistent existence. The party is undergoing a transition phase, incorporating new coalition partners, and that process is still ongoing,” Dalung explained to PulseNets.

According to INEC, the ADC has yet to meet all conditions required for the formal recognition of Senator David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary. Until those requirements are met, documents endorsed by the two leaders remain invalid.

But Dalung insisted the issue is already being handled.

“INEC’s conditions are legal obligations, and the ADC must comply. To my knowledge, party leaders are working day and night to finalise the documentation,” he told PulseNets.

He further stressed that the coalition would only succeed in rescuing Nigeria if it is firmly guided by the rule of law.

Dalung also dismissed claims by Dumebi Kachikwu, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, who alleged that the ADC had been hijacked by outsiders.

“Being a candidate in the last election does not automatically make one part of the party’s decision-making organs. He has the right to express his opinions, but describing other members in derogatory terms is simply wrong,” Dalung learnt by PulseNets.

On the specific concern of specimen signatures of the new leadership, Dalung revealed that the matter was already nearing resolution.

“In the coming days, Nigerians will be informed of the true position. The issue is close to being settled,” he said.

Looking ahead, Dalung expressed confidence that the ADC would emerge as a credible alternative to the ruling party in 2027.

“Every party faces internal wrangling and procedural requirements. These challenges are not unusual. From our activities nationwide, it is clear that Nigerians can trust us to provide a credible and dependable option in 2027,” he spoke to PulseNets.

With Dalung’s assurance, the ADC is positioning itself as a key player in Nigeria’s political landscape, promising a credible opposition platform as the 2027 elections approach.
