Over N2.08 Billion Disbursed by NELFUND to North-West Students

The Federal Government has channelled a total of N2.086 billion through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to students of higher institutions across the North-West region.

This disclosure was obtained by PulseNets on Tuesday in Katsina, where Mukhtar Lawal-Tsagem, Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Katsina State Directorate, highlighted what he described as key milestones of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking during a one-day sensitisation programme organised by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Mr Lawal-Tsagem reported that about 20,919 students in various higher institutions across the zone had benefitted from the disbursement.

According to him, “The NELFUND programme ensures that students of higher institutions in the country can obtain interest-free loans to settle their tuition and cover academic needs. It is one of the boldest interventions of this government in supporting education.”

Federal Government Presence in the North-West

PulseNets learnt that beyond education, the Federal Government has equally made its impact visible in agriculture, infrastructure, and security.

Mr Lawal-Tsagem told PulseNets, “In Kebbi, wheat farmers across 12 local government areas obtained support through the NAGAP initiative. In Kaduna State, ginger farmers received over N1.6 billion in direct assistance. Likewise, the N2 billion Yawuri Water Scheme stands as one of the region’s notable federal infrastructural projects.”

He explained that one of the key functions of the Ministry was to constantly inform the public about government projects, policies, and achievements, while also mobilising citizens to embrace and support such initiatives.

Calls for Continued Support

During the programme, Adamu Muhammed, a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration at Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, also delivered a presentation.

In his words, “The North-West must continue to show appreciation for the administration’s developmental strides. I urge our people to cultivate goodwill with President Tinubu and his government so that the region can sustain and expand the benefits of this goodwill.”

The sensitisation exercise, PulseNets reported, was premised on showcasing North-West milestones under the Tinubu administration, with education financing through NELFUND emerging as one of the headline achievements.

With over 20,000 students supported, billions allocated to agriculture, and multi-billion naira infrastructure projects launched, the Federal Government continues to push its narrative of inclusive development and national orientation in the region.
