INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu Presides Over Staff Promotion Meeting
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, September 25, 2025, held its regular weekly meeting under the chairmanship of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. PulseNets learnt that the meeting carefully reviewed ongoing preparations for the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship election, the Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as the conduct of party primaries for both the Ekiti and Osun State Governorship contests.
In a development obtained by PulseNets, the Commission further approved the 2025 promotion exercise for 471 deserving junior staff within Grade Levels 03 to 06. The approval came on the recommendation of the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC), in line with INEC’s Staff Conditions of Service.
According to figures made available, a total of 515 staff were shortlisted for the exercise. Out of this number, 214 qualified for promotion to GL07, 134 advanced to GL06, 106 moved to GL05, while 17 successfully scaled into GL04.
PulseNets reported that this round of junior staff promotion concludes the first phase of the exercise. The Commission has already commenced the second phase, which covers senior staff promotions.
Speaking on the development, the Commission noted: “Staff promotion is a routine exercise. We remain committed to ensuring that merit-based promotions are conducted regularly and that the welfare of staff is prioritised. We encourage all staff to remain dedicated to service, especially in matters relating to elections and electoral activities.”
