PDP Northern Support Group Endorses Jonathan for 2027, Declares Him Party’s Best Hope
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Northern Support Group has officially endorsed former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election, citing his leadership credentials and national appeal.
PulseNets learnt that the endorsement was contained in a communiqué obtained by PulseNets after the group’s 8th strategic meeting held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, between Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the communiqué jointly signed by the group’s Northern Coordinator, Yusuf Abubakar, and the North-West Zonal Secretary, Adamu Narayi, members unanimously agreed that “Jonathan remains the best option to restore unity within the PDP and strengthen national cohesion ahead of 2027.”
The coalition, which comprises PDP loyalists and affiliated support groups across the 19 northern states, reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, while commending his ongoing reconciliation and reform efforts within the party.
Speaking to PulseNets, a senior member of the coalition disclosed that the group expects the leadership to act decisively against individuals involved in anti-party activities, warning that certain figures have been “sabotaging the unity drive by collaborating with the ruling APC behind the scenes.”
The communiqué emphasized that the PDP still enjoys solid grassroots support in the North, urging members to close ranks, rebuild trust, and prepare collectively for the next general elections.
On the issue of Jonathan’s eligibility, the group dismissed lingering doubts, insisting that “the matter has long been resolved both legally and politically, and should not be used to distract or divide the party at this critical stage.”

The PDP Northern Support Group further pledged unwavering loyalty to the party’s ideals and expressed optimism that with unity and strategic coordination, the PDP could reclaim power at both the national and state levels in 2027.
“Our position is clear — Goodluck Jonathan symbolizes peace, balance, and inclusivity. He is the bridge the PDP and Nigeria urgently need,” the communiqué concluded.
