PDP Postpones 103rd NEC Meeting Amid Defections and Leadership Consultations

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its much-anticipated 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was originally slated for Wednesday, following what party sources described as “recent developments within the fold.”

According to information obtained by PulseNets, the decision was reached during an emergency session of the National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday, in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).

Party spokesman Debo Ologunagba, who confirmed the development, noted that a new date for the NEC meeting will be communicated “in due course,” adding that the decision was aimed at ensuring inclusiveness and stability within the party’s leadership structure.

The postponement comes amid a wave of defections by PDP members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a trend that has triggered renewed conversations about the opposition party’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections.

A senior party chieftain told PulseNets that the leadership is “taking stock of ongoing realignments” and reassessing strategies to reposition the PDP ahead of future polls.

Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged party members to remain steadfast despite the turbulence rocking the opposition camp. Speaking during the inauguration of the PDP National Convention Transportation Subcommittee in Abuja, the governor said the current crisis would ultimately strengthen the party’s internal resolve.

In his words,

“The talk everywhere is that PDP governors are defecting. But let me reassure you—sometimes, things get tougher right before they get better. What we’re going through now is the storm before a new dawn,” Makinde told attendees.

He further reminded members of the party’s legacy since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, saying

“From the 34 wise men who birthed the idea of democracy at the start of this republic, PDP has always been a defining force—either as the ruling party or as the main opposition since 2015.”
