Confusion as Reports Claim Evangelist Uma Ukpai Has Passed Away — Family Yet to Confirm

Reports circulating online suggest that Reverend Uma Ukpai, the renowned international evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, has allegedly passed away.

Social media has been awash with speculations about the revered cleric’s death, following a series of cryptic posts by ministers and Christian platforms.

Prophet Joel Ogebe posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) that read:

“A giant has gone to be with the Lord. My father, my father, the chariot of Israel. Heaven rejoices. Uyo.”

Although Ogebe did not mention any names, the post immediately triggered reactions online, with many users linking the message to Rev. Uma Ukpai, whose non-denominational ministry headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has impacted millions across Nigeria and beyond.

Shortly after, PulseNets learnt that a popular Christian platform, Church Gist, also published a Facebook post suggesting the cleric’s demise. The post read:

“A GENERAL TAKES A BOW! EVANGELIST UMA UKPAI HAS GONE TO BE WITH THE LORD. REST IN POWER, SIR.”

However, sources close to the family told PulseNets that there has been no official confirmation from his household or the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association as of press time.

Efforts by PulseNets to reach family representatives or ministry officials for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.

The 79-year-old preacher, widely celebrated for his healing crusades and evangelistic missions across Africa, remains one of Nigeria’s most influential Christian leaders.
