“Shame on Him”, Bode George Slams Governor Diri’s Defection to APC

Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed concern over the growing wave of defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting that deeper political motives may be driving the trend.

Speaking in reaction to the recent developments in Bayelsa State, George criticised Governor Douye Diri’s reported defection to the APC, describing the move as disappointing and a betrayal of public trust.

He told PulseNets that Governor Diri

“owes the people of Bayelsa a higher sense of loyalty and gratitude, especially because he became governor through a Supreme Court pronouncement.”

George maintained that the refusal of the governor’s deputy and other PDP leaders in the state to join him in the ruling party is a clear indication that Diri’s political move is not merely about changing platforms.

He stated that

“it’s a shame on him because, as they say, a rolling stone gathers no moss. There must be something else attracting them to the APC. What has the APC really done that has brought happiness to Nigerians?”

According to information obtained by PulseNets, George lamented the worsening economic situation in the country, arguing that the APC government has not justified the loyalty it continues to attract from defecting politicians.

He said,

“Our national debt has ballooned; the markets are dry, people are crying, and the youth are losing hope daily. So, what exactly is pulling them to the APC?”

When asked about rumours that some politicians defect to avoid investigation, George responded sharply,

“Some of them say that once they leave office, the EFCC will come for them — and so what? Should fear of accountability now dictate one’s political loyalty?”

PulseNets learnt that George also commented on the situation in Enugu State, where Governor Peter Mbah has been involved in an internal PDP leadership disagreement. He revealed that party elders have been working behind the scenes to calm tensions.

“There was this issue of secretaryship tussle, but we pleaded for patience because Samuel Anyanwu’s tenure will soon end, by the middle of next month,” George told PulseNets.

He concluded by stressing the need for politicians to remain consistent, uphold party values, and prioritise the welfare of Nigerians over personal ambitions.
