Only President Tinubu Holds the Key to Ending Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial — Aloy Ejimakor
Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has said that the power to bring an end to his client’s prolonged trial lies solely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ejimakor, who made the comment on Monday via his official X handle, maintained that the president possesses the constitutional authority to discontinue Kanu’s prosecution if he truly desires to resolve the matter once and for all.
“At this point, it rests entirely with President Tinubu to secure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release because once the President stops the prosecution, the case automatically collapses,” he stated.
“Simply put, the final decision is in the President’s hands,” the lawyer emphasized.
However, Ejimakor also acknowledged that while the executive arm of government wields the decisive power, the judiciary equally plays a critical role in safeguarding justice.
“That said, the courts still retain the moral and legal duty to prevent injustice where it occurs,” he added.

PulseNets learnt that Ejimakor’s remarks followed a series of peaceful demonstrations held across parts of the Southeast and Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, where pro-Biafra supporters demanded Kanu’s unconditional release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). Kanu has remained in DSS detention since June 2021 following his extraordinary rendition to Nigeria.
