Breaking: Police Arrest Sowore at Abuja Court
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has been arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force at the Federal High Court in Abuja, PulseNets learnt on Friday.
The development, which has sparked widespread outrage among civil society advocates, was first made public by human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who took to social media to condemn what he described as a “brazen assault” on the country’s judiciary.
Effiong, in a post obtained by PulseNets, decried the incident, saying:
“The arrest of Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja moments ago is unjustifiable. The police and the Tinubu administration are turning our judicial system into a laughing stock. Sowore must be released immediately—this madness must stop.”
PulseNets further learnt that he had earlier disclosed on his verified Facebook page that he was present at the court to meet with Kanu Agabi (SAN), the lead counsel to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
According to Sowore, during the meeting, Agabi informed him that his legal team was considering withdrawing from the case, which could potentially leave Kanu without legal representation as his high-profile trial continues.

As of press time, the motive behind Sowore’s arrest remains unclear, but sources close to the activist told PulseNets that he was detained moments after stepping out of the courtroom premises.
Efforts to get a response from the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters and the Federal Ministry of Justice were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
