Security Expert Backs Tinubu’s Service Chiefs Reshuffle, Calls Move Constitutional and Timely
A renowned security expert, Salihu Dantata, has expressed strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent decision to reshuffle the Service Chiefs, describing the move as both constitutional and timely.
In a monitored broadcast obtained by PulseNets, Dantata noted that the President, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, reserves the full constitutional authority to appoint or relieve any Service Chiefs whenever necessary.
He was reacting to the latest shake-up in the nation’s security hierarchy — a move PulseNets learnt was aimed at fortifying the Federal Government’s overall national security architecture amid ongoing challenges across the country.
According to him, “No one really saw it coming; it came as a surprise to many,” Dantata said while assessing the development.
He continued, “But beyond the surprise element, President Tinubu acted well within his constitutional powers. As Commander-in-Chief, he can, at any time, decide to relieve any Service Chiefs of their duties. It’s a normal practice globally.”
The expert further explained that leadership changes in the military are necessary, especially when there are gaps in achieving desired results. “Around the world, when nations are faced with persistent insecurity and the appointed Service Chiefs fail to deliver expected outcomes, it’s the President’s prerogative to replace them with new ones capable of producing better results,” he told PulseNets.

Dantata’s remarks add to the growing discourse surrounding President Tinubu’s latest military adjustments, which analysts believe could reshape Nigeria’s approach to counterterrorism and internal security management.
