U.S. Aborted Mission After Moles in Nigerian Military Leaked Chibok Rescue Plan to Boko Haram
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bolaji Akinyemi, has accused certain elements within the Nigerian military of leaking a top-secret rescue plan to Boko Haram, ultimately sabotaging a covert American operation to save the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
He made the revelation during an interview on Arise News while reacting to recent threats by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned he could deploy American troops to Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians by terrorist groups.
According to details obtained by PulseNets, Akinyemi alleged that the classified mission, jointly undertaken by the United States and Nigeria under former President Goodluck Jonathan, was aborted at the last minute after Boko Haram received advance warning of the planned assault.
Akinyemi stressed that President Bola Tinubu must embark on a thorough internal cleansing of the military if Nigeria intends to confront terrorism effectively.
He explained, “The Americans had an unforgettable experience under the Jonathan administration. After the Chibok girls were taken, the U.S. came in quietly, with Jonathan’s approval, and worked closely with Nigerian troops. Everything was done discreetly.”
PulseNets learned that U.S. and Nigerian operatives eventually identified the locations where the kidnapped girls were being held. A strategic plan was agreed upon: release gas into the camps at night while the insurgents slept, then storm the hideouts to rescue the hostages.

Akinyemi recounted that the breakthrough appeared imminent until the reconnaissance stage exposed a fatal compromise.
He said, “They found the exact camps holding the girls and agreed the operation would begin by releasing gas while Boko Haram was asleep. The American troops would then enter with Nigerian forces to retrieve the girls. But when the U.S. sent reconnaissance aircraft over the area, Boko Haram fighters were already wearing gas masks. That told them everything—they had been tipped off from inside the Nigerian army, and the Americans immediately withdrew.”

He urged President Tinubu to avoid a hostile posture in future engagements with Donald Trump and instead demonstrate a clear commitment to tackling insecurity, thereby preventing any foreign military intrusion into Nigeria’s affairs.
Akinyemi’s remarks, PulseNets learnt, reinforced long-standing suspicions among many Nigerians regarding internal sabotage and government complicity in the country’s protracted security crisis.
