Tinubu to Present 2026 Budget Without Accounting for 2025 Fiscal Year Performance — BudgIT

A leading civic accountability organisation, BudgIT, has raised concerns over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to move forward with the presentation of the proposed 2026 national budget, reportedly valued at ₦54.4 trillion, without first releasing a performance report on the implementation of the 2025 budget.

The organisation made its position public in a statement shared via its official X handle on Thursday.

PulseNets learnt that President Tinubu is scheduled to lay the 2026 Appropriation Bill before a joint session of the National Assembly on Friday, setting the tone for the next fiscal year.

Reacting to the development, BudgIT faulted the federal government for failing to provide Nigerians with details of how the 2025 budget has been implemented so far, describing the situation as a major accountability gap in the budgeting process.

“Mind you, there is still no budget implementation report for 2025,” the organisation stated.

“The 2026 budget is almost here, yet we don’t know how the 2025 budget performed?” BudgIT added.

“No report. No accountability,” the statement concluded.

PulseNets recalls that President Tinubu signed the 2025 Appropriation Act, valued at ₦54.99 trillion, into law in February 2025, with assurances at the time that the budget would drive economic stability, infrastructure development, and social welfare.

However, BudgIT’s latest remarks have reignited public debate over fiscal transparency, budget tracking, and the federal government’s commitment to open governance, as Nigerians await clarity on how funds allocated in the 2025 budget have been utilised.
