Fubara Urges Calm as Rivers Political Tension Rises, Says State Will Not Be Distracted by “Sounds of War”
Residents of Rivers State have been urged to remain calm, united and prayerful amid rising political tension, as Governor Siminalayi Fubara reassured that his administration remains focused and unshaken by what he described as growing “sounds of war.”
The governor gave the assurance during his New Year address at the crossover service held at the Chapel of Everlasting Grace, Government House, Port Harcourt, where he outlined the guiding principles of his leadership for 2026. PulseNets learnt that Fubara emphasised prayers, patience and peaceful engagement as the foundation of governance, rather than confrontation or political hostility.
Reflecting on the first two years of his administration, the governor acknowledged that the period was marked by turbulence and internal pressures that slowed down aspects of development. However, he noted that Rivers State endured the storm without falling apart, attributing the state’s survival to divine intervention and the collective resilience of its people.
According to information obtained by PulseNets, Fubara expressed strong optimism that the New Year would usher in greater stability, clearer direction and accelerated development across the state.
In a direct message to residents, the governor cautioned against fear and political intimidation, urging the people to remain focused despite provocations. Drawing inspiration from the biblical account of Prophet Elijah, he encouraged Rivers people to listen to the “still small voice” of God rather than being unsettled by threats or hostile rhetoric.
“We do not have the instrument of war; the only thing we have is our knees, and we will continue to pray to God. Do not be troubled by the sounds of war you are hearing,” Fubara declared.
He added that Rivers State was entering 2026 with renewed hope, confidence and the assurance that those who place their trust in God would not be put to shame.
PulseNets reported that the governor also reaffirmed his commitment to peace and political maturity, stressing that any future political alignment or support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections would be anchored on dialogue, mutual understanding and respect, rather than coercion or threats.
Fubara commended the people of Rivers State and supporters of his administration for their loyalty and steadfastness, noting that their resilience had helped the government remain stable and focused despite sustained political pressure.

Earlier in the service, the Government House Chaplain, Pastor Ogan Barasin, delivered a sermon titled “At Thy Word,” where he called on believers to embrace total obedience to God in 2026. He warned that delayed obedience could translate into delayed testimonies.
Quoting from the Gospel of Luke, Pastor Barasin emphasised that the New Year would require faith-driven action rather than excuses. He further declared 2026 a year of visible and tangible miracles for those who trust and obey God, while offering prayers and prophetic declarations for peace, progress and enduring stability in Rivers State.
