2027 Election: I Will Only Join a Party Ready to Offer Me Presidential or VP Ticket — Kwankwaso
Rabiu Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), has outlined clear terms under which he would consider joining any political coalition or alliance ahead of the 2027 election.
The former Kano State governor stated that while discussions are ongoing about a possible merger with another political party, such engagement would only be meaningful if the party is prepared to cede either its presidential or vice-presidential ticket to him. PulseNets learnt that this condition has been consistently communicated within his political circle as talks around opposition realignments intensify.
There have been growing reports that the former Minister of Defence is under mounting pressure to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as political actors begin early positioning for 2027. PulseNets reported that the ADC has increasingly become a hub for high-profile political figures seeking an alternative platform ahead of the next election cycle.
The party already boasts heavyweight aspirants, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, all of whom have indicated interest in contesting the presidency under the ADC banner.
Separately, PulseNets obtained information suggesting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has also been making moves to court Kwankwaso, with the aim of strengthening its political machinery ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s expected re-election bid in 2027.
However, speaking directly to his supporters during a gathering in Kano on Saturday, Kwankwaso firmly dismissed any notion of unconditional alignment with another party. According to him, any alliance must reflect his political standing and electoral value.
“We are searching for a party to work with, but they must be ready to offer me, Rabiu Kwankwaso, either the presidential or the vice-presidential ticket,” he told supporters, as reported by PulseNets.

Kwankwaso contested the 2023 presidential election under the NNPP platform, where he finished a distant third, trailing behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
