ADC Can Defeat Tinubu in 2027 With Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai — Dele Momodu

A prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has expressed confidence that the opposition party has the political strength and structure to defeat President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

Momodu, speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Thursday, argued that the ADC’s growing coalition of influential political figures places it in a strong position to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid. PulseNets learnt that he specifically pointed to the combined political capital of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi as a major advantage for the party.

According to Momodu, the ADC’s depth goes beyond just two high-profile figures. He noted that experienced politicians such as former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi further strengthen the party’s electoral prospects. PulseNets reported that he described the ADC as having a “robust and credible” leadership pool capable of taking on the APC nationwide.

Emphasising the need for unity, Momodu warned against internal divisions and rigid positions within the opposition. “Politics will always have hardliners, but at this point, strategy and principles must guide us,” he said. “Nobody should insist that it must only be their candidate. Once it becomes bitter and hostile, we fall into the trap the ruling party wants for us.”

He added that disunity among opposition figures would only serve the interests of the APC. “Their greatest wish is for us to quarrel endlessly and fail to agree, or even fail to disagree constructively,” Momodu stated.

On his engagements with Peter Obi, Momodu disclosed that discussions have taken place both privately and publicly. “I’ve had conversations with Peter Obi in private and in the open. At this stage, I believe our collective interest should be tied to a platform that accommodates all of us, including myself,” he explained.

While reiterating that the contest should not revolve around any single individual, Momodu acknowledged that if strategic considerations were paramount, Atiku Abubakar remains a strong option. “If strategy alone were the issue, Atiku would be my choice,” he said. “In moments of national crisis, you turn to elders with experience and exposure, people who can apply wisdom to stabilise the system.”

Momodu stressed that the ADC is not lacking in capable contenders. “There are many brilliant political heavyweights who can deliver for ADC,” he noted. “Tambuwal, El-Rufai, Amaechi—these are men with proven records. For me, this is bigger than one person.”

Referencing the 2023 presidential election, Momodu observed that the ADC already boasts significant electoral assets. “INEC recorded Peter Obi as coming third and Atiku second in the last election, however controversial some may find those results,” he said. “That means ADC already has two of the top three candidates from the last poll. We are clearly blessed.”

He argued that this reality gives the party a realistic pathway to victory if managed properly. “When you look at the numbers, it should be obvious that if we organise ourselves well, the votes are already there to defeat the APC,” Momodu asserted.

Dismissing claims that Tinubu is politically invincible, Momodu added, “APC is just one party. I don’t understand why people think Asiwaju cannot be removed.”

He concluded by stressing the importance of electoral vigilance and strong candidacy. “We must keep INEC under close watch,” Momodu said. “That is why you need candidates with the energy and firepower to confront the APC directly on its own turf.”
