Aisha Yesufu: ADC Backed by Over 200 Million Nigerians, APC Left With 30 Governors

Political activist and African Democratic Congress (ADC) stalwart Aisha Yesufu has asserted that the opposition party enjoys the backing of more than 200 million Nigerians, declaring that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is left primarily with the support of its governors.

Yesufu made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, March 5, 2026, where she discussed the political strength of the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking as chairperson of the ADC Online Registration Sub-Committee, the activist acknowledged the financial and structural advantage of the ruling party but insisted that the opposition possesses greater public enthusiasm and grassroots support.

PulseNets learned that Yesufu criticised the current state of governance in Nigeria, describing the situation as a systemic failure marked by economic hardship, insecurity, and poor leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While addressing the financial disparity between both parties, she admitted that the APC has a significant spending advantage.

“The ADC is not mincing words that when it comes to money, the APC can outspend the ADC; definitely they can outspend us because they have our coffers, our national wealth, at their disposal to do whatever it is that they’re going to do with it.”

Despite this, she argued that financial power would not be decisive in determining the outcome of the next general elections.

“The one thing that I can tell you is they cannot outpassion us. They have 30 governors, but we have over 200 and something million Nigerians, minus the 30 governors and a few of the supporters that they have.”

PulseNets reported that Yesufu’s comments come amid the ADC’s ongoing efforts to expand its membership base through an online registration campaign, which she said has attracted strong interest from Nigerians across the country.

Although she declined to reveal the party’s exact membership figures, she expressed confidence that the ADC could defeat the APC in the 2027 presidential election, describing the upcoming polls as a decisive moment for the country.

PulseNets obtained her remarks describing the election as “a war” for Nigeria’s future, adding that the contest would be “business unusual.”

Meanwhile, the ADC has increasingly been mentioned in discussions about a possible united opposition platform ahead of 2027. PulseNets learnt that recent political engagements involving prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and David Mark have intensified speculation about potential alliances.

However, the party has faced criticism over its limited grassroots structure and its performance in some recent elections, including the FCT Area Council polls.

Responding to such concerns, Yesufu argued that large voter turnout during national elections would offset the APC’s advantages in funding and incumbency.

Her “200 million supporters” claim has also sparked debate on social media platforms. While supporters praised her remarks as a reflection of growing public dissatisfaction with the current administration, critics described the figure as exaggerated, pointing out that Nigeria’s population is estimated at between 220 million and 230 million.

PulseNets learnt that the statement reflects rising opposition rhetoric as political actors begin positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential race, with debates increasingly centred on public frustration, economic hardship, and calls for political change.
