Anita Pointer, a Grammy-winning vocalist, passed away at age 74 after a cancer struggle.
On New Year’s Eve, the singer passed away in her Los Angeles, California, home while being attended by her family.
Pointer’s family, in a statement on Instagram on Sunday, announced that ”Anita Pointer of the Pointer Sisters died after a heroic battle with cancer.”
“While we are deeply saddened by her death, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her sisters, June & Bonnie and her daughter, Jada. Heaven is a more beautiful , loving place with Anita there,” it added.
Anita was a founding member of the R&B group The Pointer Sisters, known for their international singles including “I’m So Excited,” “Jump,” and “Fire.”
The Oakland, California-based quartet, which also included the sisters Ruth and June, released their debut album in 1973 and went on to win three Grammys.
