Nigerian woman, Buki Adeyemo becomes CEO of famous mental health trusts in England

Buki Adeyemo assumes the position of CEO at renowned mental health trusts

A Nigerian woman, Dr Buki Adeyemo, has been appointed Chief Executive of Combined Healthcare, Hospitals and Health Care (NHS) in England.

Dr Adeyemo’s ascension to the role comes after a meticulous selection process and her exemplary track record within the trust.

A statement from Combined Healthcare read:

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Buki Adeyemo as Chief Executive.

“Following a thorough and extensive recruitment process, our Interim Chief Executive was successful in securing the position which takes immediate effect.

“Buki became the trust’s Interim Chief Executive two years ago, having previously served as the Medical Director from 2012.

“During her time as Interim Chief Executive, Buki has led the trust through the challenges of the pandemic, the delivery of innovative transformation projects to improve patient care, and welcomed the accolade of the prestigious HSJ (Health Service Journal) NHS Trust of the Year.

“Dr Adeyemo started her medical career in Nigeria and graduated from the University of Lagos. She came to work for the NHS in 1997, and has spent the majority of her career to date working in North Staffordshire.

“She is a dual qualified old age and adult psychiatrist and became a consultant of old age psychiatry in 2007 at Combined Healthcare. Buki is also a NHS Chief Executive representative on the Mental Health Network Board at the NHS Confederation.”

David Rogers, Chairman of Combined Healthcare, lauded Dr Adeyemo’s appointment, commending her steadfast dedication and strong leadership values. He highlighted her pivotal role in driving the trust toward excellence and innovation.

His words: “I would like to congratulate Buki on the appointment, which is so very well deserved. Buki is the longest-serving member of our executive team, and her commitment to the trust is clear to see.

“Buki stepped into the Interim position with ease – her strong values, leadership and experience have continued to drive the trust on our journey to become outstanding in all we do and how we do it. I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Buki on the appointment.”

Expressing her gratitude, Dr Adeyemo articulated an ambitious vision for Combined Healthcare’s future.

She emphasised a patient-centric approach and a commitment to further growth and innovation within the trust.
