Ex-Senator Elisha Abbo Surrenders to Police over Alleged Rape of 13-Year-Old in Abuja

A former federal lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo, has turned himself in to the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) following allegations that he raped a 13-year-old secondary school student.

Abbo, who once represented Adamawa North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, was accused of sexually abusing the minor inside his residence located in the Katampe area of Abuja on June 29, 2025.

Speaking exclusively to PulseNets, the parents of the victim alleged that another ex-lawmaker, who also contested for a governorship seat, visited their home and “pleaded with us not to allow this scandal to come out.”

According to the family, Abbo has continued to send money to the girl’s father in an alleged attempt to silence them. The father told PulseNets that “they believe money can bury the truth, but this is our child’s pain, not a transaction.”

Sources obtained by PulseNets confirmed that Abbo is currently being held at the FCID headquarters as of the time of filing this report.

This is not the first time Abbo’s conduct has drawn national outrage. Recall that in 2019, the controversial politician was caught on camera physically assaulting a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja. That incident sparked widespread condemnation after he was booed by shop owners at the popular Banex Plaza, leading to his arrest.

In yet another controversy, a married woman once accused the ex-senator of blackmail, alleging that he threatened her with a sex tape.

The latest allegation against Abbo has already generated heated conversations across Nigeria, with many calling for a transparent investigation and accountability.
