International Women’s Day: ADC Reaffirms 40% Women Leadership Quota in Nigerian Politics

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has restated its commitment to expanding women’s participation in politics and governance across Nigeria.

PulseNets learnt that the party’s constitution guarantees 40 percent of all party positions at every level for women, a provision designed to ensure stronger female representation within the party’s leadership structure. The framework places the ADC among the few political parties in Nigeria with a clearly defined policy aimed at promoting women’s inclusion in political decision making.

This position was made public by the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Bolaji Abdullahi, who addressed the issue on Sunday while marking the International Women’s Day celebration.

PulseNets obtained a statement shared on Abdullahi’s official X handle, where he reaffirmed the party’s resolve to foster a political environment that encourages women to take active roles in shaping Nigeria’s governance and political direction.

In the message, Abdullahi emphasized the ADC’s longstanding commitment to gender inclusion within its internal structure and the broader political system.

“On this commemoration of #WomensDay, as the only political party in Nigeria whose constitution reserves 40% of all party positions at all levels to women, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) reaffirms our commitment to building a political culture where women can lead and participate fully in shaping our politics and governance.”

PulseNets reported that the ADC spokesperson also encouraged Nigerian women to become actively involved in the party, noting that broader participation is essential for building a more inclusive and representative political system in the country.
