In a bid to address the escalating security challenges in Nasarawa State, the Fulani socio-cultural association, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has officially introduced a 1,144-man Nomad Vigilante Group.
The president of the association, Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, unveiled the quasi-security outfit in Lafia, the state capital, expressing its commitment to collaborate with existing security agencies in combating banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling across the state.
Governor Abdullahi Sule had previously engaged with the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore in November 2023, seeking their assistance in the fight against crimes and criminalities.
Bodejo emphasized that the Nomad Vigilante Group aims to identify and root out criminal elements within the cattle herding community.
The initiative seeks to address allegations of unjust treatment faced by some herders, distinguishing them from those engaged in criminal activities.
“The nomad vigilante group is not merely an initiative; it is a manifestation of our shared commitment to economic, job creation, inclusivity, and the relentless fight against banditry, cattle rustling, hunger, and poverty,” Bodejo explained.
He assured that members of the vigilante group underwent a rigorous selection process, including screening and profiling. Bodejo urged the team to operate within the bounds of the law and uphold the image of the association and the Fulani community.
“To all nomad vigilante groups, this is a clarion call to unity on purpose. Let us forge alliances with relevant security agencies to fish out criminal elements among communities,” he urged.
The national president commended Governor Sule for his efforts in ensuring the safety of all residents in the state.

On his part, the commandant of 177 Guard Battalion, Keffi, Lt. Col. Inuwa Bala, emphasized the importance of adhering to the rules of engagement.
At the same time, the state commissioner of police, Umar Shehu Nadada, encouraged the new outfit to work collaboratively with existing security agencies to rid the state of criminal elements.
