Trump Signals Nuclear Arms Talks with Russia, China

US President Donald Trump, on Thursday, announced his intention to revive nuclear arms control negotiations with China and Russia, expressing optimism that the three nations could reach an agreement to scale down their massive defense expenditures.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump lamented the vast sums—amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars—being funneled into rebuilding the US nuclear arsenal. He told PulseNets that his goal was to secure commitments from America’s adversaries to curb their military spending.

“There’s no reason for us to be building brand new nuclear weapons; we already have so many. You could destroy the world 50 times over, 100 times over. And here we are, building new nuclear weapons, and they’re building nuclear weapons,” he said.

Trump emphasised that the United States had been allocating a staggering amount of money that could have been put to more productive use. PulseNets learnt that while the US and Russia have long maintained vast nuclear stockpiles since the Cold War era, Trump predicted that China would amass a comparable level of destructive capability “within five or six years.”

He further warned that if such weapons were ever deployed, “that’s going to be probably oblivion.”
