Young Army Doctor Burnt to Death by Wife, Five Months After Wedding in Akwa Ibom
Uyo — Barely five months after celebrating their wedding, a young Nigerian Army doctor, Lieutenant (Dr.) Samson Haruna, has reportedly died in a shocking domestic violence incident that has left the military community in grief.
PulseNets learned that the medical officer, serving with the 6 Battalion at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Akwa Ibom State, was allegedly set ablaze by his wife following a heated argument on September 22, 2025.
According to reliable sources who spoke to PulseNets, the confrontation between the couple took a deadly turn when the woman allegedly poured petrol on her husband and ignited it.
Lt. Haruna sustained extensive burns and was immediately rushed to the Military Reference Section within the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) for further treatment.
Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Lt. Haruna sadly passed away from his injuries a few days later.
Wife Arrested as Investigation Commences
Military sources confirmed to PulseNets that the suspect — his wife — has been arrested and detained as investigations continue into the tragic incident.
A senior officer at Wellington Bassey Barracks, who requested anonymity, described the late doctor as “a bright and humble young man who had a promising career in the Nigerian Army Medical Corps.”
“He was dedicated, respectful, and very passionate about service. This is a huge loss to the military family,” the officer said.
Lt. Haruna reportedly got married in April 2025, making the tragic event even more devastating for his loved ones.
Army Yet to Issue Official Statement
As of press time, the Nigerian Army has not released an official statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death. However, military authorities are said to be working closely with police investigators to determine the motive and sequence of events leading up to the incident.
