Jonathan Hasn’t Resigned PDP Membership — Party Chieftain

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Debo Ologunagba, has confirmed to PulseNets that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains a bonafide member of the opposition party.

Ologunagba, who spoke during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, addressed growing speculation surrounding the possibility of the PDP presenting Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

While Jonathan himself has neither confirmed nor denied any political ambition ahead of 2027, Ologunagba stressed that the former president has not taken any step to renounce his party membership.

“President Jonathan is still with the Peoples Democratic Party because he has not resigned his membership,” Ologunagba told PulseNets.

The PDP spokesman, however, declined to be drawn into speculations over whether former Labour Party presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, could be on his way back to the PDP.

“Mr Peter Obi contested the last election under another political platform. He has not shown any interest in returning to the PDP, and it would be improper for me to start making comments on that matter,” he explained.

Highlighting the strength of the PDP ahead of 2027, Ologunagba maintained that the party is not short of competent and credible leaders capable of representing Nigerians on the national stage.

“What I can say is that this party is blessed with men and women of proven capacity. Governor Seyi Makinde, for instance, is one of our shining lights in performance and ability to galvanize Nigerians. Beyond him, we have several eminently qualified leaders across PDP states, and it is evident to Nigerians that PDP-controlled states remain centers of real development,” Ologunagba noted in the interview obtained by PulseNets.

The remarks come at a time when political realignments and 2027 presidential permutations continue to dominate national discourse. By affirming Jonathan’s loyalty to the PDP, the opposition party appears keen to silence doubts and project itself as a united front heading into the next election season.
