Court Orders DNA Test on Mohbad’s Son Amid Paternity Dispute

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has ordered that a DNA test be carried out on Liam Aloba, the son of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.

The directive was obtained by PulseNets on Tuesday following the ruling of Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga. The decision came after the court heard an application filed by the late singer’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba, who approached the court seeking confirmation of the child’s paternity.

According to court filings sighted by PulseNets, the DNA analysis must be conducted in a certified and reputable medical institution either in Nigeria or abroad to ensure transparency.

Legal documents show that the application was brought under Order 8 Rules 1 and 8 of the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) 2012, alongside Order 9 Rules 8 and 9 of the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009. The respondent in the matter is Mohbad’s widow, Mrs. Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba.

The magistrate also authorised the Chief Medical Officer or pathologist at the Military Hospital in Yaba, where Mohbad’s remains are currently preserved, to release tissue, hair, or other samples necessary for the test.

In his submission, counsel to Mr. Joseph Aloba, Augustine Adegbemi of Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co, told PulseNets that “clarity on paternity is vital not only for the welfare of the child but also in determining the mother’s responsibilities.”

Interestingly, Mohbad’s widow, represented by her lawyer Kabir Akingbolu, did not oppose the application. This, PulseNets learnt, allowed the court to grant the request without objection.

Delivering the order, Magistrate Sonuga outlined clear directives, stating that “two DNA tests should be conducted, one within Nigeria and another abroad, in accredited hospitals. Both parties or their representatives must be present at the time of sample collection.”

The case has been adjourned to November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.
