Adeboye Tells Lawyers: Life, Success Depend on God’s Mercy, Not Human Brilliance
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has reminded Nigerians, especially legal practitioners, that human life and all human achievements are sustained solely by the mercy of God and not by personal brilliance or effort.
PulseNets learnt that Adeboye gave this reminder on Sunday during the September Thanksgiving and Prayer Service themed Divine Mercy at the RCCG National Headquarters, Throne of Grace Parish, Ebute-Metta. He emphasized that being alive in itself is evidence of divine mercy.
Quoting him directly, he said, “The fact that we are alive today is purely the mercy of God. When you look at the countless ways a person could have died, you will realize that it is not cleverness or intelligence that keeps anyone, it is only the mercy of the Lord.”
Adeboye’s Testimony on God’s Mercy
PulseNets obtained details of how Adeboye illustrated the point with a personal story from his university days. According to him, despite being a mathematics tutor who had prepared thoroughly for an examination, he suddenly went blank the moment he saw the eight questions on the paper.
He recalled, “I was already preparing to walk out of the hall when an invisible hand kept me seated. Then suddenly, clarity came and all the solutions flowed. I answered all eight questions and even told the examiner to mark any five. That was nothing but God’s mercy.”
Mercy is Conditional
The revered cleric further cautioned that God’s mercy does not operate in a vacuum. He quoted scripture, saying, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”
Adeboye also warned that refusing to show mercy attracts grave consequences. In his words, “There is real trouble for the unmerciful. The result can be destruction without remedy. God’s patience is not endless. A time comes when He says enough is enough.”
Call to Legal Practitioners
Speaking to journalists after the service, Pastor Dele Balogun, Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, told PulseNets that legal professionals in Nigeria have a vital responsibility to uphold justice and fairness in their practice.
“If this nation desires true justice, lawyers and judges have a critical role to play,” Balogun said, noting that the church consistently prays for and anoints professionals across sectors to remind them to serve with integrity and the fear of God.
Acts of Mercy in Practice
Balogun further disclosed that over 2,000 needy individuals were given rice during the service, stressing that true mercy must be both spiritual and practical.
He explained, “You cannot seek God’s mercy and at the same time be involved in kidnapping, corruption, murder or theft. Mercy must reflect in action.”
