Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri (FUAB) Begins First-Ever Recruitment Exercise

The Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri (FUAB) in Bayelsa State has officially commenced its first external staff recruitment exercise, marking a major milestone in the university’s establishment and readiness to begin full academic operations.

According to an official advertisement published in The Punch newspaper on September 10, 2025, and signed by the Registrar, Dr. Agatha O. Ataga, the exercise is open to both academic and non-teaching candidates across various faculties and departments.

FUAB was established by an Executive Act of the Federal Government in April 2023 as a specialized institution aimed at advancing agricultural education, research, and innovation in the Niger Delta and beyond. Located in Bassambiri, Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, the university represents the Federal Government’s vision of having a University of Agriculture in each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The management emphasized that this maiden recruitment process will form the foundation on which the institution will stand.

“This is the first recruitment exercise being carried out, and it is expected that the staff recruited in this exercise will form the foundation on which the university will stand,” the Registrar noted.

The university recently gained attention following its full accreditation of all 28 approved programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC), a development that signified its readiness to commence full academic activities.

Residents and education stakeholders in Bayelsa and the Niger Delta region have lauded the move, describing it as a “transformational opportunity” that will expand access to tertiary education, boost agricultural research, and generate local employment.

A source within the FUAB Support Group told PulseNets that the recruitment exercise signals a “new dawn” for the community.

“With this announcement, the university is now set to attract qualified professionals, scholars, and technologists to drive its agricultural and scientific vision,” the source said.
