Canadian Police Arrest Nigerian Man Over Alleged Roommate Stabbing in Ontario

Canadian police have called on members of the public to assist with investigations following the arrest of a Nigerian national, Nnamdi Enunwa, over an alleged stabbing involving his roommate in Oshawa, Ontario.

PulseNets learnt that the incident occurred on Thursday, January 1, 2026, after officers from the Central East Division Police responded to reports of an armed individual at a residential property around Ritson Road North and Adelaide Avenue East.

According to information obtained by PulseNets, residents in the area alerted authorities after a domestic altercation reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation.

Police confirmed that upon arriving at the scene, officers found both the suspect and the injured victim inside the residence.

“Our officers attended the location and located both the suspect and the victim at the scene,” police said.
“The suspect was taken into custody without resistance, while the victim was transported to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” the statement added.

Mr Enunwa, aged 38, was immediately arrested, while his roommate, who sustained significant injuries, was rushed to a local-area hospital for medical attention. Police later confirmed that the victim’s condition was stable and not life-threatening.

The Central East Division Police told PulseNets that Mr Enunwa is currently being held pending a bail hearing. He has been formally charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing a criminal offence.

Authorities stressed that the charges remain allegations at this stage, noting that the case is still under investigation and has not yet been tested before a court of law.

In a public appeal, the Central East Division Police urged anyone with information that could aid the investigation to come forward. Investigators requested that individuals with relevant details contact Det. Baldini of the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch.

Police also encouraged members of the public to submit tips anonymously through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers or via online reporting platforms. According to the statement, tipsters “may qualify for a cash reward.”

The arrest comes amid growing public scrutiny of violent crimes involving foreign nationals in Canada, following a recent high-profile case in which an Indian student was fatally stabbed by a Nigerian student, Babatunde Afuwape.

Police said investigations into the Oshawa stabbing incident are ongoing.
