At least 1,892 civilians have been killed and 2,558 injured since the war in Ukraine started in February, amid the Russian invasion.
This was disclosed by the United Nations (UN) in a statement on Tuesday, according to CNN.
“The number of recorded deaths include 478 men, 308 women, 30 girls, 52 boys, 71 children, as well as 953 adults whose sex is yet unknown.
“Most of the civilian casualties recorded were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including shelling from heavy artillery and multiple launch rocket systems, and missile and airstrikes,” the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said in a statement.
The actual casualty figures could be considerably higher because of a delay in reports from some locations, the OHCHR added.
These include areas like the besieged southeastern city of Mariupol, where “figures are being further corroborated.”
The war between Ukraine and Russia began in February this year.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had ordered a long-feared invasion of Ukraine due to political differences between both countries.
