ADC Leaders Denied Access to Nasir El-Rufai in ICPC Custody
The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Friday failed to gain access to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently being held by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
PulseNets learnt that the visit attracted attention across Nigeria’s political landscape as senior figures of the opposition party arrived at the ICPC facility in an attempt to see the former governor.
Among those in the delegation were the ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, and Salihu Lukman.
However, PulseNets learned that the ADC leaders were denied access to the facility during the visit. The exact reason behind the refusal was not disclosed as of the time of filing this report, while circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear.
El-Rufai, a former Kaduna State governor, is currently in the custody of the ICPC over yet-to-be-disclosed issues. His continued detention has continued to spark political reactions from allies, opposition figures, and members of his political circle.
Sources who spoke to PulseNets said the ADC delegation arrived at the ICPC premises earlier on Friday but were turned back without being granted a meeting with the former governor. There was no immediate indication from the anti-graft agency on whether another visitation date would be approved.
The development comes amid growing public conversations surrounding El-Rufai’s welfare and treatment while in custody. The ICPC had earlier dismissed allegations claiming that the former governor was being denied access to food, family members, and medical attention.

According to the Commission, only authorised persons, including legal representatives, medical officials, and family members, are allowed access under supervision and within approved visitation periods.
As of press time, uncertainty continued to trail Friday’s blocked visit as neither the ICPC nor the ADC had issued further clarification on the denial of access to the former Kaduna governor.
