Fubara Govt Is Rivers’ Best Chance to Escape Wike’s Self-Aggrandizement, Says Tam-George

Former Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Austin Tam-George, has declared that the administration of Governor Sim Fubara represents the strongest opportunity for Rivers people to break away from what he described as the self-aggrandizing political structure of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Tam-George made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’, PulseNets learnt.

Speaking during the interview, the former commissioner argued that Rivers State is currently dealing with a political godfatherism crisis that has reached an unprecedented level.

“Administration is our best chance to escape Wike’s self-aggrandizement.”

According to him, the issue of political godfathers is not peculiar to Rivers State, but the situation in the oil-rich state has become extreme because of the nature of control allegedly exercised by the former governor.

“The question of possible godfathers is not unique to Rivers State, as you probably know, but what is unique in terms of Rivers State is that we have a godfather who has taken prebendal politics to a completely new stratosphere.”

Tam-George further alleged that Wike’s style of politics has centered excessively on personal interests, forcing many Rivers residents and political stakeholders to reject such a system.

“We have a former governor who has taken personal aggrandizement to the point where the people now have no choice but to say, no, this cannot be accepted.”

He maintained that supporters of Governor Sim Fubara’s administration see the current government as a pathway to ending what he called prebendal and self-serving politics in Rivers State, PulseNets reported.

“Those of us backing Fubara’s administration do so because it is our best chance to escape the prebendal, self-aggrandizing politics that Wike embodies.”

Tam-George also criticized the previous administration over the welfare of civil servants, claiming that no worker received promotion throughout Wike’s eight years as governor.

“No civil servant was promoted in Rivers State throughout Wike’s eight-year administration.”

He added that Governor Fubara has shown greater sensitivity to the needs and expectations of the people of Rivers State.

“As I said before, Governor Fubara was quite wise enough to gravitate towards meeting the needs of the people,” he said.
