2027 Elections: Wike Says Amaechi Can’t Deliver Rivers, David Mark Weak in Benue for ADC
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has asserted that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, lacks the political strength to deliver Rivers State to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The FCT Minister made this known on Friday during an interaction with journalists in Abuja, where he revisited past electoral outcomes to challenge Amaechi’s influence in Rivers politics.
Wike pointed to previous election cycles, noting that despite Amaechi’s prominence within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party failed to secure decisive victories in Rivers State. PulseNets learnt that the minister specifically referenced both the 2015 and 2019 general elections to reinforce his argument.
He recalled that even with Amaechi serving as Director-General of the presidential campaign for the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, the APC struggled to make significant electoral gains in the state. PulseNets reported that Wike maintained that federal influence did not translate into local political dominance.
According to him, despite what he described as “federal might” deployed during those elections, he still emerged victorious in the governorship race, underscoring Rivers State’s resistance to external political pressure.
“Are we saying today, if an election is conducted in Rivers state today, that Rotimi Amaechi will deliver Rivers state to ADC?
“Remember, he was a governor. When I came to run as governor, he was in the APC. Who defeated him? And he was the DG of the campaign then.
“Remember, in 2019, when I was running for my second term, he was the minister of transportation and was the DG of Buhari’s campaign,” he said

Wike also cast doubt on the national viability of the ADC, questioning its leadership strength and grassroots control. PulseNets learnt that he singled out former Senate President, David Mark, who currently chairs the party, arguing that even in his home base, political dominance remains uncertain.
“Take, for example, Benue, where the former senate president, their so-called chairman of the party, his daughter won under APC, and he was in PDP,” he said.
