INC Launches Political Movement to Strengthen South-East Agenda Ahead of 2027
The Igbo National Council (INC) has unveiled a fresh political structure aimed at boosting the South-East region’s chances of securing key positions in Nigeria’s political landscape as the nation moves towards the 2027 general elections.
PulseNets learnt that the movement, christened the State Political Committee (SPC), was officially inaugurated in Owerri, Imo State, with the Chairman of INC, Mazi Nnamdi Aguguo, stressing that the group’s mandate is to reposition the Igbo people for stronger political and electoral participation.
Speaking at the unveiling, Aguguo told PulseNets that the new committee is expected to “drive the political agenda of the INC in the 2027 general elections by mobilizing members and setting frameworks that will guarantee visible political participation.”
He lamented that despite the Igbo race constituting an estimated 32.8 percent of Nigeria’s population, the South-East has not been able to transform that numerical strength into meaningful political advantage. According to him, Igbo people are present in almost every community and state in Nigeria, yet the absence of effective political and economic linkages has weakened their influence.
Aguguo reported that the lack of coordinated synergy among South-Easterners has consistently undermined their ambition for the highest office in the land, a situation which gave rise to the formation of the SPC.
Highlighting the broader obstacles, the INC chairman alleged that the Igbo nation has been subjected to a deliberate conspiracy and psychological warfare. He observed that some political elites from the South-East have unfortunately fallen into this trap, thereby necessitating urgent political reorientation before 2027.
“We are deeply concerned that the majority of our people have been psychologically conditioned by a conspiracy theory that has long been orchestrated against the Igbo in Nigeria,” Aguguo told PulseNets.
“This psychological warfare has done significant damage to the political mindset of our people, and unless it is countered, we risk losing more ground in the nation’s political space.”
PulseNets obtained details that the newly formed committee will be led by Chief Justice Ohaegbu and will operate with a five-member team for a tenure of three years.

Aguguo disclosed that the SPC will be responsible for drafting and proposing guidelines for the political participation of INC, including clear criteria for adopting candidates that the Council will back in the 2027 general elections. He explained that the body will also serve as a political think tank, offering strategic direction and helping to coordinate critical activities of the Council.
The INC leader emphasised that the committee’s role goes beyond short-term politics, as it will be pivotal in forging unity among the Igbo and creating a sustainable roadmap for the region’s future in Nigeria’s political space.
